People are sometimes meant to come and go from our lives, staying around for only a short period of time. But other friends do have the potential to be long-term, and grow with you as your life changes. One way to keep friendships of any level strong is to actively nurture them.

Some friendships come easily and nurturing them is not hard to do. Others, however, require more thought and action. That's okay. Putting effort into a friendship doesn't mean the friend is not right for you, it simply means that your friendship is different and you need to work to keep it strong.

Send Handwritten Notes
With all the electronic communication going on these days (Facebook, email, Twitter, texting), a handwritten note can really make an impression. First, you just don't see them as much these days so it will really stand out in your friend's mailbox. Second, just knowing you took the time to find a note card, write something by hand, and then mail it shows how much thought went into it.

You don't need to send cards all the time for this to be an effective way to nurture. Look for opportunities like these:

• Thank you cards. They show your friend how much you appreciate their gift.
• A card sympathizing with something your pal is dealing with. This could be anything: a rough time at work, trouble with a teenager, struggles in marriage, and the like.
• A note of encouragement. Is your friend trying to lose weight? Get a new job? Enter the dating world? Whatever the occasion, a handwritten note will show your friend that you're with them in spirit.
• A "just because" card. Think of how touched your friend will be to get a card that simply says, "Hey, I haven't told you in a while but I really appreciate our friendship."

Be Proactive in Contacting Friends
When people are busy, they can get in the habit of calling up friends only when they need something. The problem with this is it makes it look as if you don't really care about your friend, and instead just want to be with them when it suits you.

There is nothing wrong with asking a friend for a favor, but make sure you are actively nurturing your friendship first. Call up people to see how they are doing, send an email, or just write on their Facebook wall. Regularly check in with your friends so they know you are sincere.

• Items that spark a memory for the two of you, such as tickets to an event, a funny book, or gift certificates to a favorite restaurant.
• Anything that lifts their life burden can be a great gift. Things like offers to babysit, a book of easy recipes, or an offer to lend a hand in the garden.
• Homemade gifts are great if you are giving something your friend really wants. If you're handy, knit or crochet a handmade scarf, make a memory journal or scrapbook, or sew some pillows for their apartment.

Talk Things Out
People who argue from time to time actually have healthier friendships than those who never discuss their points of conflict. Learn how to argue in a healthy way and work through the issues in your friendship. Doing this means that you and your pal value your relationship.

By contrast, if you remain silent and let things build, resentment will begin to take over your relationship. Why let a good friendship die just because of a little conflict? Discuss your issues with the goal of making your relationship that much better.

Why would a demon be stronger than a ghost, or deceased human? Depending on our beliefs, we can understand why angels, blessed with powers from higher dimensions are maybe stronger than deceased humans, but why a demon? In fact, why either entity since we too are of the same cosmic fabric? If I had an answer it would be "experience" or that they have been in that realm for so much longer. When we cross over, that is relatively new territory for many souls. For demons and angels, this is their long endured habitat and home. The demon is cunning and the angel enlightened. Really, you can think of it as a good/bad adult (demon/angel) dealing with an inexperienced child (ghost). They hold the experience we lack and are full of tricks (demons), or miracles (angels) of which either inspire or frighten us. Ị also think miracles and tricks are inherent in us too, but they are more readily accessible and producible by these beings because this is what they have been doing for many life-times. I think our abilities and faults are a microcosm of theirs.

With this said, it doesn't mean that ghosts cannot be the very thing angels and demons are. An entity, once human, can descend or ascend into either characteristic. A child, once loved on earth, can come back and lift the spirits (literally) of those most dear to it and be called an angel. A person who has crossed over from irreparably painful circumstances can spiral into negativity and do demonic things.

We can surmise that to be demonic or angelic, versus ghostly, is an advanced stage of positive or negative, while a ghost is more inexperienced and neutral. In time, we too will be angelic or demonic, depending on the path our soul takes.

What are the signs that a volcano is about to erupt?
While volcanoes may give off several warning signs they are about to blow, some are taken more seriously by volcanologists, who alert and advise government officials regarding when evacuations need to take place.
"These signs may include very small earthquakes beneath the volcano, slight inflation, or swelling, of the volcano and increased emission of heat and gas from vents on the volcano," said U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Volcano Hazards Program coordinator John Eichelberger.
"Rising magma causes solid rock to break, sending earthquake signals," Eichelberger told Life's Little Mysteries. "This pushes the ground surface upward, and boils off hot gas that travels ahead of the magma."
The USGS looks for these changes using seismic and GPS networks that surround volcanoes. Radar satellites are also used to detect swelling of the ground by comparing images taken at different times, according to Eichelberger.
How far in advance do the warning signs occur?
"Most volcanoes give warnings signs beginning weeks or months before they erupt," Eichelberger said.
During field observations of a potentially active volcano, volcanologists use sophisticated equipment and techniques to predict and monitor an eruption. These include measuring water temperature and pH (acidity), analyzing ground cracking patterns and searching for new areas of avalanche-felled rocks, according to the USGS.
Ground-based, airborne and satellite detectors are used to measure gas and heat emission. However, some eruption warning signs are harder to read than others.
"Increases in the flow rate of sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide gases indicate that magma is coming," Eichelberger said. "Water is actually the most abundant gas in magma, but because there is already so much of it in the atmosphere, measuring it is not useful in forecasting eruptions."
