INTERESTING ENGLISH IDIOMS


Take after = mirip
Ex : Your face take after my idol.




Big name = orang terkenal
Ex: Ghito Drevelown is a big name in my collage.

Better off = lebih bahagia / lebih kaya
Ex : Shereen would be better off with me.

Watch over = mengawasi, melindungi
Ex : Someone’s watching over her brother.

Make fun of “someone” = menertawakan “seseorang”
Ex : The presentable man made fun of my cousin.

Close with money = pelit
Ex: Her grandmother is very close with money.


Over again = sekali lagi
Ex : She did the ridiculous mistake over again.

Try on = mencoba “sesuatu” apakah cocok atau tidak
Ex : Ance tried on the shoes before she wanted to buy it.

At all = sama sekali
Ex : I don’t understand your problem at all.




Beyond belief = mustahil untuk dipercaya
Ex : It’s beyond belief that Gava could be so captivating in the party

Show off  = mencoba mendapatkan pujian dari seseorang
Ex: Douglas drove to the meeting to show off his new motorcycle.





Get together  = bertemu
Ex : Two old friends of Monica will get together for a party.

Come by= mendapatkan / memperoleh
Ex: Adorable guy like me is hard to come by.

Go bad = menjadi busuk (of food)
Ex: This beef has gone bad.

Kick out = memecat/meliburkan/menolak
Ex: The conceited guy was kicked out of collage for cheating in examination.


Come out = diketahui, dipublikasikan
Ex: Rendi’s masterpiece will come out soon.

Take in = mengerti
Ex : The only one that he could take in, I love him so much.

In the air = belum pasti/ meragukan
Ex : The truth of his accident is still in the air.

Slip away = melewati dengan cepat
Ex : I want to slip away this misery!

In tears = menangis
Ex : the widow is always in tears because of her poor condition.

Rough on “someone” = memperlakukan seseorang dengan kasar
Ex : You rough on him behind my back.
